APERTURES FOR HOPE A Photography Exhibition For The Benefit of USLS Bahay Pag-asa
Location: Porcelanosa, 125 Pioneer St. Mandaluyong City Exhibit Dates: Sept. 7-12, 2026
In Apertures of Hope, the fundamental principle of light in photography becomes a metaphor for the exhibition itself. It gives us an invitation to look beyond the visible and discover the possibilities that emerge when we choose to see with greater openness, empathy, and care.
Born from the shared vision of photographers Br. Kenneth Martinez FSC, JP Yulo, Cheng Yong, and Arj Muñoz, this exhibition is rooted in a profound belief that art can become an instrument of compassion and healing. What began as conversations among friends who share a passion for travel photography has grown into a collective effort to support Bahay Pag-Asa of the University of Saint La Salle, a center that has accompanied children in conflict with the law since 2002 through rehabilitation, education, values formation, and hope.
Apertures of Hope brings together images created across ancient geological formations and expansive coastal landscapes to places shaped by culture, labor, and time. The works reveal moments of quiet resilience, beauty found in the ordinary, and the transformative power of light as it reshapes familiar scenes.
Just as changing light can reveal new dimensions within a familiar landscape, so too can compassion reveal possibilities within lives that society has too quickly defined by their mistakes. The young people of Bahay Pag-Asa are more than the chapters that brought them there. Like every photograph, their stories remain unfinished.
Given guidance, education, community, and the opportunity to begin again, they too can emerge into a future marked not by judgment, but by promise. Proceeds from this exhibition will help sustain educational opportunities and livelihood initiatives that allow these young people to imagine futures beyond the circumstances that brought them there.
For in the end, the most powerful images are not only those that capture light, but those that inspire us to become bearers of it.
